Confession
So I have got a confession to make, I never really liked Samsung phones, I have used so many of them over the years
But could never get used to their operating system Touch Wiz, I always loved the hardware but the software I found was quite laggy at times, and almost impossible to live with on a day-to-day basis, just because of how unreliable I found the software experience.
Hence the reason why I have mostly always been an 🍏 iPhone user, I found I could always rely on the software. solid device and never let me down.
Now fast forward a few years, with the release of Samsung One UI, now the tables have finally turned.
The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra is a device I can comfortably crown the absolute king of the smartphone world, at this moment in time as we head deeper into 2021.

Design
The design is one of the S21 Ultra's strong points with a stunning 6.7inch matt black slab of greatness.
It has a camera module that is integrated into the body of the phone, which looks and feels amazing, sandwiched in between Gorilla Glass Victus.
Making the front and back of the phone is around 80% more resistant to scratches,
And coming from an iPhone 12 Pro Max I can honestly say that I prefer that touch and feel of Samsungs smooth edges, over the Iphone's sharp edges.

Display
I'm sure you are aware that Samsung makes some of the best phone displays in the game, and on the S21 it really shows, the display is fantastic.
They have given the screen 25% more nits of brightness, 50% better contrast, and allowed it to run on 120Hz refresh rate using QHD+ resolution, and it's epic.
Samsung has also added S-pen functionality which is something that up until this point has always been exclusive on their Note series of phones. admittedly you don't get all of the features of the Note, but it's great just having the option.

S21 Ultra Hardware
OS | Android 11, One UI 3.1 |
Chipset | Exynos 2100 (5 nm) – International Qualcomm SM8350 Snapdragon 888 5G (5 nm) – USA/China |
CPU | Octa-core (1×2.9 GHz Cortex-X1 & 3×2.80 GHz Cortex-A78 & 4×2.2 GHz Cortex-A55) – International Octa-core (1×2.84 GHz Kryo 680 & 3×2.42 GHz Kryo 680 & 4×1.80 GHz Kryo 680) – USA/China |
GPU | Mali-G78 MP14 – International Adreno 660 – USA/China |
Also this year they have made their ram and storage much quicker so you have the choice of 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of storage and 12GB/16GB of ram.

You have a new generation fingerprint scanner which is faster and 1.7 times larger than last year, also a new chipset. the new Exynos 2100 gives you 35% more graphics and 33% better CPU, so in essence, giving you an overall better experience in day-to-day use,
Better battery life, better 5G, and Bluetooth 5.2 which provides a more stable connection when connecting all of your Bluetooth devices.

App loading times are fast, with an even quicker camera shutter, plus the addition of the all-new wifi 6E, which can improve the speed of your wifi quite dramatically when coupled with the right router.
Cameras
Samsung has not changed the cameras this year but they have just refined them, so you still have a 108MP Main, 100xZoom, and 8K Video recording, but now you are getting more benefits such as allowing you to take great photos between 1X and 10X.

The upper limit of the zoom is higher, giving you the option to zoom further whilst still giving you a sharp shot, remember at 100X zoom you will obviously lose some quality but you always be able to get a good and usable image at 30X zoom
Also added is a upgraded sensor that will now capture 64X richer color, and 3X dynamic range, which means it will shoot in images in 12-Bit Raw giving you much better low light 🌙 photos.
Dual Pixel Auto Focus has also been added to the main sensor, so when the camera gets close to a subject, it can detect exactly where the subject is, and if necessary will turn itself into a macro camera, and in my testing I have found it to work great.
Video
The iPhone has always been my go-to camera for video and the king within this segment for many years, but with the S21 Ultra that has changed,
The versatility you get with the S21 is mind-boggling for a smartphone, that gives you the ability to film video in 4k 60FPS at 10X magnification, whilst still maintaining great if not perfect image quality and stability.
Also the introduction of the director's view giving you the option of seeing all of the lenses at once, But rather than me explain it take a look 👇 for yourself. in the S21 Official Camera Video below.
Last Thoughts
The Samsung S21 Ultra is truly my favorite phone of the year, giving you so much versatility between the cameras, all-day battery life, and second to none build quality.
If you're asking me if you should buy the S21 Ultra, well if you have the money for it, I would absolutely recommend that just go ahead and buy it, for me right now the Samsung S21 Ultra is the King Of Smartphones!
